Muslims and Tech with Ahmad Mansee, Product Design Lead at Delivery Hero



Ahmad Mansee is a Product Design Lead for Delivery Hero. Delivery Hero is a German multinational online food-delivery service based in Berlin, Germany. The company operates in 50+ countries internationally in Europe, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East and partners with 500,000+ restaurants.

1) To kick things off, could you tell us a little about your career background (how you got to where you are) and current role?


I hold a bachelor's degree in Graphic design back home (Jordan) during that time I worked for some time as a graphic/brand designer and slowly started to move towards web design in 2014 I moved to Germany to expand my knowledge which I enrolled in a master program - in the Bauhaus University with the focus on Multimedia. After that, I moved to Berlin for my first job as a UI/UX designer and since then I have been living and working in Berlin. I worked in different companies and products with different titles, such as UI/UX designer, product designer, and recently lead product designer at Delivery Hero.


2) What does a day in your life look like for you? Can you take us through a recent workday?


It’s different and that’s what I like about my job it does require a lot of alignment and collaboration with products and engineers.


Since my calendar can get full very quickly I always book some focused time to get things done, I also have regular syncs with the people I work with closely to understand business goals and ensure a great outcome. Another part of my day/week will be collaborating with other designers within the design chapter to create a process and get more insight into our user's pain points.


3) What does work-life balance mean to you and how do you work to achieve that goal?


In short, it’s about creating a clear road map and breaking things into digestible pieces to have the feeling of achieving and reliving something valuable and always reflecting on that. With such clear communication, you can spend the time on the things that matter the most in addition to that, having the leadership trust in you and not micromanage you - this is why you got hired right? Taking time off and having a company that cares about employees' mental/health is crucial to make sure they are happy and have a feeling of belonging.


4) In the past 12 months, have you started or stopped any routines or habits to change your life?


I would say reviewing my daily, weekly/bi-weekly meetings with other colleges to see if there is something to discuss, or if it’s needed anymore. That helped me organise my day better and create more room for more important things.


5) What brings you peace during stressful times?


at work when I’m overwhelmed I simply raise my hand and communicate to Cleary how I feel outside the work Being close to my family or chatting with a friend!

7) What’s the one piece of advice you would give our readers for managing stress and creating a healthy mental state?


It’s a difficult question, I can advise people to take some time off and discount from any work-related channel of communication such as slack, emails..etc. Simply be unreachable I believe the company can survive during your absence
